SKILLED RIDER COURSE: F.A.Q.s
Q: What is the Skilled Rider Course?
The Harley-Davidson Riding Academy Skilled Rider Course is a motorcycle safety course that uses the proven curriculum of the Motorcycle Safety Foundation® (MSF) Experienced Rider Course, with some enhancements developed by Harley-Davidson enthusiasts. Participants use their own motorcycles to enhance the following skills: control at low speeds, risk management, limited space maneuvers, cornering judgment, stopping quickly in a curve, swerving, stopping quickly, multiple curve maneuvers, and overcoming obstacles.

Q: Why should I participate in the Skilled Rider Course?
The skilled rider course is designed to help you improve and build on your motorcycle riding skills in a controlled environment. The lack of distractions and road hazards allows you to concentrate on fine-tuning maneuvers that you may not be able to safely perform on public roadways. It is the best way to take your riding skills to the next level while having fun with other riding enthusiasts.

You don't need to have your motorcycle license to take this course. Upon successful completion, non-licensed riders are issued a waiver that can be used at the DMV to obtain a motorcycle endorsement.
The MSF completion card, if submitted to your insurance provider, might assist you in getting possible discounts on your insurance.

Q: How much does the course cost?
This one-day course costs $199 + tax. It includes the E-course for FREE.

Q: Tell me more about this Screening Exercise.
To participate in the Intermediate Rider Course, you must pass a qualifying exercise to continue with the class to demonstrate you have control during slow-speed maneuvers.

Q: What if I can’t do the qualifying exercise?
Those who don’t successfully complete the screening exercise are welcome to take the Basic Rider Course to get more practice on all basic skills.

Q: Do I get a refund if I fail the qualifier?
While we are unable to issue refunds, we will transfer your payment toward the Basic Rider Course fee ($340).

Q: Will I be able to get into a BRC1 class right away?
Since the two classes operate on a different schedule, we can’t guarantee that you’ll be able to get into the next class, just the next one that has available seats. This could be a week to a few months beyond your BRC2 class.

Q: How do I pay for the course?
You can pay online or in-store. If paying online, you may pay the course fee by credit card only. In-store, you may pay the course fee by credit card, cash, gift card, or check.

Q: How do I know when Harley-Davidson Riding Academy Courses are available?

Q: I haven’t ridden a motorcycle for several years, but I’m not exactly “a beginner”. Does it make sense for me to take the Riding Academy Experienced Rider course?
A: Absolutely! You’ll know right away if this is the right class for you, or if you need to take the Basic Rider Course. All class fees will transfer to the Basic Rider Course if needed.
